HOW TO DISABLE WINDOWS 10 AUTOMATIC UPDATES

Unlike Windows 8 or any previous versions, there is no option to disable Windows 10 automatic updates. There is no option to disable Windows update in control panel or in PC Settings. 

In the previous versions of Windows we had the flexibility to turn off the automatic updates or we could choose whether to download and install the available updates. But this feature has blown off from the settings or control panel of Windows 10. Now let us see “how can you disable Windows 10 automatic updates”.

DISABLE WINDOWS 10 AUTOMATIC UPDATES

METHOD 1: BY DISABLING WINDOWS UPDATE SERVICES

By disabling Windows update services, you can disable Windows 10 automatic updates. To do so, Open run Command by pressing “Windows Key + R”, type the following and hit OK.

services.msc

Now a new window will open, scroll down and navigate to Windows Update. Right click click on the Windows update and click on properties. Now in the Startup type option, select Disabled and hit OK.

By clicking OK, Windows 10 automatic updates will be disabled. You can enable it again by following the same procedure.

METHOD 2: USING METERED NETWORK CONNECTION

This is a new feature that Microsoft has added to Windows 10. By enabling this feature you will have more control over the data usage. Microsoft has provided this feature to the users having limited data plan. Enable Metered Network Connection to disable Windows 10 automatic upgrade. 

You have to enable it for all the networks you use to browse internet. To enable Metered Network Connection, click on the Network button available on the taskbar.



Now a list of all the available networks will open. Click on the Network settings and turn on the metered network connection. By enabling it, the updates will no longer be downloaded automatically.

HOW TO CREATE A NEW USER ACCOUNT IN WINDOWS 10

If you share your Windows PC with other people, then each user must have their own account or you each person should create a new user account in Windows 10 so that they will have their own sign in and desktop. Windows 8 was powered by Microsoft account that allows you to sync files and settings from PC to PC. There are more advanced options in Windows 10 that were limited in Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.

CREATE A NEW USER ACCOUNT IN WINDOWS 10

In Windows 8.1 you are allowed to add or create a new user account as a local account or a Microsoft account. But in addition to these features Windows 10  allows you to create a new account for your family member. You can add an account for your child or create a new user account for an adult.

CREATING A NEW LOCAL ACCOUNT

There are many methods to create a local account in Windows 10, but I will share the best & the easiest two methods to “create a new local account in Windows 10”.

METHOD 1 :- USING COMMAND PROMPT

To create a new local user account in your Windows 10 PC just type in the following command in the command prompt and hit enter. Change the username and password as per your preference.

net user [username] [password] /add

Make sure you are running the command prompt as an administrator.

METHOD 2 :- USING RUN COMMAND.

You can also create a new user account in Windows 10 by using Run Command Windows. To do so, open the Run command Window by pressing “Windows Key + R”, type in the following command and hit enter.

An user account Windows will open. In the Users tab click on the Add button.



A sign in window will open. You will have two options, you can sign in with a Microsoft account and add it in to your PC or you can add a local account by skipping the signing in procedure. Click on the “Sign in without a Microsoft account”and continue to the next window where you will ask to add a new user. Click on “Local Account”. Type in the User name & password and you are done creating a new user account in Windows 10.



If you want the newly added user to be the administrator, type in the same command that was used in Method 2 in the Run window and hit enter. Select any user and click on properties, now open the “Group Membership” window and select the second option – “Administrator”.

ADDING A FAMILY MEMBER ACCOUNT

Windows 10 has brought an all new feature that allows you to add an account for any of your family member, weather a kid or an adult. To add a family member account, go to Settings and open “Accounts”. In the Accounts section, click on Family & other users. Hit on “Add a family member”.



Click on Add a child or Add an adult, enter the email address or create a new one. An invitation will be sent to the new user’s email id containing an invitation link that will have a validity of 14 days. So make sure, the new user will click on the invitation link within 14 days.

CHANGE WINDOWS 10 START MENU AND TASKBAR COLORS

Follow these steps to change Windows 10 start menu and taskbar colors –

1.  Open Personalization,

[infobox style=”alert-info”] Right click on the desktop background to and click on Personalize to open personalization [/infobox]

2. Click on the Colors option present on the left side of the Personalization window.

Now there will be three options available –

Automatically pick an accent color from my desktop

If you want to be easy then tick this option so that the start menu and taskbar will automatically pick up the accent of the desktop background. Other wise you choose from the available colors manually.

To make the start menu and taskbar more appealing, tick this option to get colored start menu and taskbar. You can see the difference in both the cases. If this option is turned off then only the icons would be colored.

Checking this option is also recommended to make the start menu and taskbar transparent.

HOW TO FIX TASKBAR, START MENU, CORTANA NOT WORKING ISSUE

Other websites are providing many methods and claim that those will solve the bug, I have also tried those methods but didn’t worked for me. Here @ Kick-It-Easy you will learn about two methods that will surely fix this bug permanently.

METHOD 1 :-

USING POWERSHELL

Step 1: Right click on Start Menu button and open Command Prompt as an administrator.

Step 2: Type in powershell and hit enter.

Step 3: Paste the following Command in the Powershell(previosuly was Command Prompt) window and hit enter.

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Step 4: Wait for the process to finish and complete the command

Step 5: When it finishes try clicking on Taskbar, Start Menu, Cortana, hopefully they will work by now. If not, use the next method.

METHOD 2 :-

EASIEST METHOD

Feeling lazy, huh ? Don’t worry take help of a small file. It will do it for you.

Step 1 : Download this file » 10services_default.bat (62 KB)

Step 2 : Open the download file as an administrator.

Step 3 : Wait for 10 seconds, after 10 seconds it will start working

Step 4 : When the working process is finished, close every Window and Restart your PC

Step 5 : Now try clicking on Taskbar, Start Menu, Cortana. They will surely work as normal by now.

YOU WILL NOTICE, THE WIFI OF YOUR LAPTOP IS NOT WORKING ANYMORE. TO FIX THIS ISSUE, FOLLOW THESE STEPS :

Step 1 : Open the Device manager 
» To open the Device manager, Right Click on This PC and hit on Manage.

Step 2 : Click on Device manager (see the list on the top left corner)

Step 3 : Now expand the Network adapter list and uninstall all your WiFi adapters (right click and hit uninstall).

Step 4 : Once you have uninstalled all the available WiFi adapter softwares, now look for the option “Scan for hardware changes” and click on it.

Step 5 : Once the scanning process is done. Your Network adapters will be installed again and your WiFi will start working again.

METHOD 3 :-

The newly launched Windows have some minor bugs, one of them is the brightness control not working issue. When I upgraded my Windows 8.1 laptop to Windows 10, I faced the same “brightness control not working issue”. I have tried many thing to get rid of this bug and in this post I’m sharing the method that will help in getting rid of this irritating bug.

HOW TO FIX WINDOWS 10 BRIGHTNESS CONTROL NOT WORKING ISSUE.

To fix Windows 10 brightness control not working issue, follow these steps very carefully

1. Make sure your Windows PC is connected to internet.
2. Go to “Device Manager”.»To Open the Device Manager » Right click on “This PC” icon and click on “Manage”, a list of options will appear on the left, click on “Device Manager”.
3. Expand the list of “Display adapters”.
   »A list of available adapters will be displayed.

4. Right click on the available adapter and click on “Update Driver Software…”
5. Click on “Search automatically for updated driver software”

6. Wait for the download and when the download is completed, the drivers will start installing.
7. After the installation the Brightness Control will work fine.

HOW TO BOOT INTO SAFE MODE ON ANY VERSION OF WINDOWS

WHAT IS SAFE MODE ?

Safe mode is an application software, used to fix malware and unstable software problems. Booting into Safe mode is proved to be the best way to troubleshoot and fixing problems, it will boost up the task of fixing malwares or any problem, but the functionality of the computer will be reduced.

Safe mode in Windows 7 or any previous version can be accessed by pressing “f8” as the operating system boots.Your PC will be booted into Safe mode.

BOOT INTO SAFE MODE ON WINDOWS 8, 8.1 OR WINDOWS 10

Tradition to access Safe mode by pressing “f8” as the system boots, will no longer work in Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 10. Windows 10 has recently launched and millions of people have upgraded their PC to Windows 10. To boot into Safe Mode on Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 10, safe mode can be accessed by pressing “shift + f8” or a special UI is needed. First try “shift + f8”, if it doesn’t help then try this procedure to boot into Safe Mode.

1. Open Run Command.
To open Run Command press “Windows Key + R”.

2.   Type the following command and hit enter.

msconfig.exe

3. Now System Configuration window will pop up, now click on “Boot” and go under Boot options. Select Safe Boot, click Apply and hit OK.

4. After Clicking OK, you will see a system configuration message.

5.  Just Restart your Computer and it will Boot into Safe Mode.

UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10 FROM WINDOWS 8/8.1 OR WINDOWS 7

Microsoft has started rolling out Windows 10 upgrade in phases to their old users for absolutely free. Yes you heard it right, the upgrade is absolutely free for lifetime as promised by the Microsoft. As the upgrade is rolling out in phases to meet the high demand, it may take up to few days or weeks to get the bite. If you are like me and don’t want to be in a queue then follow this tutorial to upgrade to Windows 10 without waiting.

Notice : Before you upgrade to Windows 10. Let me tell you, there are some minor bugs as Windows 10 has just launched and hence acceptable, but not to worry you can fix them, also read :

BEFORE UPGRADING– MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKUP ALL YOUR FILES AND DATA JUST IN CASE.

1. UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10 USING COMMAND PROMPT.

You can force the upgrade to download using a command in the command prompt. Here’s how to do it.

• Open Command Prompt as an Administrator.
• Type the following command and hit Enter.

  wuauclt.exe /updatenow

• Wait for some few minutes and open up Windows update from Control Panel.
• Ola! You will see the Windows 10 upgrade prompt in your Windows PC.

2. UPGRADE USING WINDOWS MEDIA CREATION TOOL

I was one of you who was waiting for some notification for the upgrade, why should I wait ? So I contacted Microsoft and asked for some alternative to get the upgrade right now. They told me about some software- Windows Media Creation Tool to upgrade to windows 10. This helped me to get the upgrade without waiting in the queue.

                                               

If you’re on a 32 bit version of Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. then grab the 32 bit Windows Media Creation tool or download the 64 bit Windows Media Creation tool if you’re on a 64 bit version of Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. You can check which version of Windows is installed on your PC, just right click on My Computer or This PC and click on properties.

Download the tool in your PC to “upgrade to Windows 10”, Run the tool and select Upgrade this PC now and click on Next. Windows 10 will start downloading and once the download is finished, you will have three options for the installation. Keep personal files and apps, Keep personal files only and nothing. Select any option, I prefer first option. Windows 10 will start installing and the computer will be rebooted a few times and after some customizations your PC will be upgraded.
